Chashmaye Nur seeks to recognize and support the efforts of those who make an impact in the world with no expectation of reward. The foundation makes awards to those who have no knowledge or connections with the grantmaking industry-- individuals and groups who, in living their lives, give to those around them, be it to family, community, faith or all those who cross their path. These individuals may come from all walks of life, all levels of educational background, and may live in any number of countries.
What are the Chashmaye Nur- Eyes of Light Awards?
Chasmaye Nur- Eyes of Light awards are small-size grants and scholarships awarded to promising individuals and organizations who make an impact on those around them, with no expectation of reward. Chashmaye Nur awards are given with no strings attached. The awards will oftentimes be issued to individuals and organizations whose economic status is meager or fledgling. Since the recipients have proven that they give of themselves without expectation of reward, recipients are granted full liberty to use the award amount at their discretion. However, according to their particular circumstances and needs, recipients are encouraged to use the award for professional training, education, income-generating activities, support of basic living expenses, medical needs or other purposes that contribute to the furtherment of their well being. For example, one individual purchased a hearing aid with the award. Another individual put the award toward the purchase of an automobile to start his own small business as a driving service. Another individual pledged to sponsor another Chashmaye Nur Award recipient himself. Another used the award to enroll herself in an English language course.
How are Chashmaye Nur Fellows identified?
Chashmaye Nur award recipients are identified by eye witness accounts of board members or by referrals from others to the Board. Nominations can be delivered to the board from any number of sources. When an individual/organization is identified as a potential recipient, a short summary of their merit-worthy activities is prepared in written form and presented to the Board. Board officers are vested with the authority to grant small size awards. For awards of a more sizeable amount, the nomination is reviewed by the Board for approval. If this is approved by the board, then the individual is granted the Chashmaye Nur award. The purpose of Chashmaye Nur is to reach those who give of themselves, without asking to receive, without expectation, who are not reached by other means, and who have no knowledge or connections with the grantmaking industry. In addition, many of the recipients are not literate. For these reasons, grant proposals and applications will not be accepted.
